Just one twist of the Rate knob takes you from smooth and subtle modulation to a high-velocity swirl. It enhances the tone of almost any instrument, including guitar, keyboards, and bass. It was very successful and much sought after by many instrumentalists then, as well as today. I will say, this pedal has quite the bang for the buck once tweaked a bit.The MXR Phase 90 was one of the first phaser pedals on the market in the 1970s. The one thing I may do is the true-bypass mod. Put those two caps back in, adjusted the trim knob to taste, and I'm quite happy with the results. Way too noisy, and the noise sat on top of the sound, so was even present when playing. I actually took a tweezer and placed the resistor in and out of the circuit. OK, got the desolderer out first tried removing the resistor. I set it to be more glassy, and not so overpowering. It would actually be nice to have this control on the top. Turning it the other way get's it to go very deep and vowel like. Turning it one way makes the phase sound not go so deep, and get's more glassy. It seems to control the centerpoint of the phasing oscillator. It can be accessed through the back of the PC board, but had a glob of glue over it. I did not see an internal switch, but there is an internal trim pot just above the speed knob. I bought a new phase 90 about two weeks ago from a local store. The board is actually marked EVH Phase 90 on the other side. If you open the pedal and the board looks very smooth with minimal raised solder joints, and a 6 pin switch soldered at the top right ( cause board is turned over) then this is probably the pedal. I still want an analog version with swappable components to fiddle with tough. i only paid $50 for the NEW pedal and now i have the SAME unit as the more expensive EVH without the stripes. I peeled away the glue to find out that it is the SAME switch that turns the EVH phase 90 from block to script modes.Īll that is missing is the hole drilled in the case to depress switch. then I noticed a switch in the top left corner. When i opened it i noticed it was a Surface Mounted Component Board.(almost impossible to mod these boards) I was disappointed.

I bought a new MXR phase 90 pedal from the music store I work at. If anyone is interested in the EVH Phase 90 pedal PLEASE READ THIS.
